Changing your laundry habits can make a difference.

What you can do

• Cold Water Wash: Wash clothes in cold water. 90% of the energy consumed for each load is used to heat water.
• Hang Dry: Hang your clothes to dry. 6% of total U.S. residential energy use is attributable to clothes dryers.
• Don't Overdry: If you do use a dryer (we know hang drying isn't practical everywhere), don't overdry. Clothes will need less ironing and last longer if you remove them while they're still a bit damp.
